Check your coat before the cold arrives
The best time to sort out a coat is before the season starts. Checking early leaves time to fix wear and fit without any rush.
Lining and seams
Check the underarms, pockets and hem: these are the areas where the lining wears out most easily. Small weak spots can be repaired before the tear spreads.
Buttons, zip and pockets
Make sure the buttons are secure, the zip runs smoothly and the pockets have no holes. They are simple details, but they affect how long the garment lasts.
Fit and length
Try the coat on over your winter clothes. If it pulls at the shoulders, is loose at the waist or has long sleeves, a tailoring fitting will identify the possible alterations.
