Finding where it's too loose
A shirt can be loose at the chest, the waist, the sleeves or in several places. The fitting helps tell a comfortable fit apart from excess fabric that creates bulk.
Taking in the sides
The side seams and back darts define the line. The alteration must leave the shoulders free and not pull at the buttons.
Adjusting sleeves and cuffs
Sleeves that are too wide can be narrowed, while loose cuffs can be repositioned. If the sleeve is long, we consider how it relates to the placket and cuff.
Length and how the shirt is worn
A shirt worn tucked in must stay long enough. For wearing untucked, the hem can be rebalanced without changing its shape.
