Tailoring Alterations

Tailoring alterations for suits and formalwear in Milan

Harmony, proportion, elegance.

A suit really works when the jacket and trousers are balanced with each other and with the wearer. At Orlo e Via we alter men's suits, women's formal sets, tuxedos and occasion wear, coordinating every change to achieve a more precise fit without altering the original construction.

Key Alterations

Suits & Formalwear

Jacket & Trouser Coordination

We assess both garments together to keep proportions consistent between top and bottom: shoulders, chest, waist and jacket length; waist, hips, leg and trouser length.

Taking In or Letting Out the Jacket

We work the waist and hips according to the garment's construction and the available fabric allowance.

Shortening or Lengthening the Sleeves

We adjust length considering the wrist, shirt, buttons and buttonholes.

Changing the Jacket Length

When technically sound, we can correct the hem while keeping pocket and closure proportions as close as possible to the original.

Trouser Alterations

We work on waist, hips, thigh, leg, hem and length, setting the hem during the fitting based on the model and shoes.

Shoulders, Collar & Lapel

Shoulder alterations are complex and only recommended when the result justifies the work; we also assess any imbalance in the collar and lapel.

Buttons, Closure & Linings

We can reposition or replace buttons, correct small closure imbalances, and repair or replace worn linings on the jacket and trousers.

Full Refitting

We combine several alterations — including the trousers' darts and pleats — to update a suit that's too loose, dated or no longer the right fit.

Good to Know

Men's Suits

On a men's suit we mainly check shoulder balance, jacket closure, waist point, sleeve length and how the jacket relates to the trousers. The goal is a clean line, not simply a tighter one.

Women's Suits

On women's tailored sets we can work on the blazer, jacket, trousers or skirt, coordinating the changes. The line can be more fitted or intentionally soft, respecting the model and the desired result.

Tuxedos & Formal Occasion Wear

Tuxedos and formal sets need particular attention to lapel, closure, sleeve length, trousers and detailing. For important events we recommend also bringing the shirt and shoes you'll be wearing.
