Fit, function and proportion.
Coats and outerwear have more complex construction than many other garments: heavy fabrics, linings, padding, zips, buttons and technical details require carefully considered alterations. At Orlo e Via we assess every garment as worn to understand which alterations are genuinely useful and technically advisable.

We adjust the length considering proportions, pocket position, vents, buttons and the hem structure.
We adjust length considering cuffs, straps, buttons, zips and inner construction. Lengthening is only possible when there's enough fabric.
We reduce volume for a more balanced line; when there's enough inner allowance we can also recover fit, assessed case by case.
Coat and outerwear shoulders can contain padding and inner structure: alterations are possible in some cases, but require a careful assessment.
We can assess corrections to the collar, how it sits at the back, or its height, depending on the model.
We repair or modify centre and side vents, replace buttons, reinforce attachments and assess repositioning when it helps the closure.
We work on centre, side or pocket zips, and repair or partially/fully replace the lining when worn.
We can combine several alterations to update a coat that's too roomy or no longer the right fit.
On wool and tailored coats the alteration must preserve balance between shoulders, chest, waist, length and hem opening. Particular care is given to the lapel, pockets, buttons and vents, since an excessive alteration can alter the original proportions.
Down jackets and padded outerwear need a specific assessment. Padding, quilting, membranes and technical seams can limit some alterations: we always check structure, materials and whether the altered area can be rebuilt correctly.
On trench coats and raincoats we can assess length, sleeves, belt, buttons and fit. With technical or waterproof fabrics we also need to consider how new seams affect the material.
