Zip replacement and tailoring repairs in Milan

Practical work to extend the life of your garments.

A broken zip, a worn lining, an unpicked pocket or a missing button don't mean a garment has to be replaced. At Orlo e Via we carry out tailoring repairs and component replacements, specialising in particular in zip replacement.

Mending & Repairs — Orlo e Via

Zip Replacement: One of Our Core Services

The zip is one of a garment's most stressed components. When the teeth, slider, pull tab or tape are damaged, we assess whether a repair is enough or whether it's better to replace the zip entirely, choosing it based on length, sturdiness, colour, material and garment type.

Zips on Jackets & Coats

We replace main and secondary zips on jackets, bombers, coats and outerwear.

Zips on Down Jackets

We work on down jacket closures, checking compatibility with the padding, storm flaps and construction.

Zips on Trousers & Jeans

We replace the fly zip while keeping the original look as much as possible.

Zips on Skirts & Dresses

We work on side, back and invisible zips, integrating them into the garment's construction.

Zips on Bags & Textile Accessories

When the structure and materials allow it, we assess replacing the closure.

Sliders & Pull Tabs

If the problem is just the slider or pull tab, we assess whether we can fix it without replacing the whole zip.

Other Tailoring Repairs

Open Seams

We restore unpicked or failed seams and reinforce areas under greater strain.

Tears & Rips

We assess the most suitable repair based on the fabric, position and size of the damage. We do not offer an invisible mending service.

Patches & Reinforcements

We apply inner reinforcements or patches when they're the strongest, most appropriate solution, also working on areas starting to show signs of wear.

Pockets

We repair pocket bags, openings, edges and seams on inner and outer pockets.

Linings

We repair torn or worn linings and, when needed, assess a partial or full replacement.

Buttons

We reattach and replace missing or damaged buttons, looking for a solution consistent with the garment.

Belt Loops & Unpicked Hems

We rebuild or reattach belt loops on trousers and jeans, and restore hems on trousers, skirts, dresses and coats.

Why Repair a Garment

  • It can extend the life of a garment you still enjoy wearing.
  • It avoids replacing a garment over a single damaged component.
  • It lets you keep garments that already fit correctly.
  • It reduces waste when the repair is technically and economically sound.
  • It lets you act promptly before a small issue gets worse.

We work with many types of zips. Before confirming the work we check the garment, size, construction and availability of a suitable zip.

No. If the problem is the slider or pull tab, a more limited fix may be possible. The assessment is made on the garment.

We look for a solution as consistent as possible in colour, size, material and sturdiness. An identical component isn't always available.

Yes, after assessing the garment's construction and the type of closure.

Yes. We work on pockets, linings, seams, belt loops, buttons and other damaged parts.

No. We do not offer an invisible mending service. Instead, we assess tailoring repairs, reinforcements and other solutions compatible with the garment.

Yes. To properly assess a repair, it's best to see the garment and the damage directly.

Not necessarily. If the work is disproportionate to the garment's value or overall condition, it's right to weigh that up before proceeding.
